Scissor Advice

Do not loosen or tighten the screw when we return your newly sharpened scissors. Tightening will grind the blades together destroying the sharp edges that we put on your scissors. Setting the scissors too loose will fold the hair at the tips, causing you to use extra pressure which will dull the blades faster and may give you hand problems.

The tension we set up must be adhered to. If you want a relaxed feel, you will need to invest in a pair of superior scissors. If you need looser scissors because you have hand troubles, there are scissors on the market which can accommodate these problems.

Newly sharpened scissors will have extremely sharp edges and must be treated with care. Scissors with fresh edges are easier to damage than run in scissors. Please don’t apply pressure when closing the scissors, you could catch or damage the edges. Take extra care at first, get used to the sharpness and the feel of them. You may have been previously pressure cutting with your blunt scissors, however, if you used the same pressure with newly sharpened scissors, you will quickly dull the edges.

Dropping scissors is very likely to cause damage. We can usually take out any nicks during the sharpening process. However, if the blades become bent, this may render the scissors irreparable.

We can re-shape some high quality (premium) scissors due to the temper of the steel, which is soft and more pliable. However many regular animal grooming scissors cannot be re-shaped because they are made of hard brittle steel, which will snap if re-shaped.

Only a sharpener with experience can tell if slightly bent scissors can be sharpened. Some slightly bent scissors will cut perfectly well. Upon receipt we will advise whether or not your bent scissors will be able to undergo a sharpening process.

On occasions we receive scissors with a seized centre screw. Upon receipt we will be able to advise whether or not the scissors will be able to undergo a sharpening process.
