PREMIUM SCISSORS
Premium scissors have to be taken apart.
Blades are cleaned before being examined under magnification to identify any damage.
We then establish the cutting angle used by the original manufacturer to ensure that a minimal amount of metal is removed during the sharpening process.
Most scissors that we receive have blade imperfections such as nicks and damage. These imperfections are removed with Japanese wet stones.
If the scissors are bent, we will assess whether or not the scissors can be reshaped.
The condition of the centre screw/ thumb tensioner is assessed and if required, screws, washers, finger rests and bump stops will be replaced.
The inside of each blade is sharpened by hand, using 2 grades of Japanese wet stones. The inside of the blade is continually assessed using a magnifying glass to identify the areas which need the most work, to ensure that minimal metal is removed. This is a lengthy process which produces highly polished edges.
The outside of each blade is sharpened on equipment designed exclusively to sharpen professional premium scissors to factory sharpness.
The edges are honed and highly polished using premium products to produce smooth sharp scissors with a mirror finish.
Scissors are put in an ultra sonic cleaning tank, which generates acoustic shock energy to remove even the most ingrained dirt, particularly from parts that traditional cleaning methods can’t reach.
The tips are adjusted and re-shaped by hand.
Tips are rounded off and deburred to ensure safety of use.
The scissors are again re-tensioned and balanced.
Lubrication is applied and worked into the scissors.
The cut along the length of the blades is tested, using a specially made scissor fabric.
Tips are then tested on clean hair.
